Sweet Beginnings

As you can tell, my love of cake started at an early age. This wasn't even my birthday, it was my sister's (I'm the one on the left, by the way), but I couldn't have been happier . . . because there was C-A-K-E!!! My mother knew how to make any occasion special, especially birthdays. Birthdays were always met with the same, wonderful anticipation. We just knew there would be a delicious cake on the cake stand, balloons hanging from the chandelier and colorful presents on the table. It was as certain as the sun.

Well, times have changed. Things definitely move at a faster pace than when I grew up, but that's not always a bad thing. Technology has connected us in ways we could have never imagined. We can stay in touch with people across the globe. We can send pictures and videos with the push of a button. But I can't help to think that something, just a little something, has gotten lost in the hustle and bustle of modern life.
